All My Kinfolk: BLACK MUSIC MONTH
Songs by African-American musicians span the breadth of the human experience and resonate in every corner of our Nation — animating our bodies, stimulating our imaginations, and nourishing our souls. In the ways they transform real stories about real people into art, these artists speak to universal human emotion and the restlessness that stirs within us all. African-American music helps us imagine a better world, and it offers hope that we will get there together.

Gallery X seeks artists and creatives of all media to submit their art depicting elements and themes from Black American Music Heritage. This may include portraits and other depictions of Black musicians and singers, both historical and contemporary; Black people making/creating music; album cover reproductions; etc. All mediums and interpretations are welcome.
Along with visual interpretations of the theme, Gallery X is also seeking sound recording of original music by regional Black and Brown artists. These recordings will play on loop during the run of the exhibition.
Beginning May 15, artists wishing to submit pieces for inclusion in this exhibition are welcome to bring their art to Gallery X during regular gallery hours, or by appointment. The deadline to submit is Monday, May 27 so don’t delay! Thanks to New Bedford Creative and the Queer Arts Council the submission of artwork will be free to all self-identified Queer and/or BIPOC artists, all other submissions by non-member artists are 50% off! Black Music Month will be on view across both gallery spaces alongside the All My Kinfolk: Queer Ancestors & Chosen Family exhibition.
Submission Guidelines and Info
This is a non-juried show, all artists and media are welcome.
• Submission Fees: FREE for Queer and/or BIPOC artists (self-identified). All other non-member submissions are 50% off; $7.50 for the first piece submitted, $5 for each additional piece, maximum of 5 pieces. As always GX members submit work for free!
• All forms of media are accepted; paintings, photography, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, etc.
• All work must be ready to hang and include proper hanging attachments (wire, sawtooth hanger, etc.). Pedestals are available for sculptures, three dimensional work, or jewelry.
• Gallery X handles all sales and retains a 35% commission on any sale made by non-members. Members are subject to 25% commission on works sold. Works do not have to be for sale to be included in the exhibition.

Please note if you are printing your own submission slip you must use the file below and bring 2 copies to the gallery (1 that will be attached to the piece and a 2nd that is given to the gallery attendant).
